Clear and Patterned Impressions

Near the mouth of the Singapore River, the site of Clarke Quay was the centre of commerce during the late 19th century. ETFE cushions have rejuvenated this area which now hosts a colourful kaleidoscope of restaurants and shops. The transparent street roofs are patterned with custom decorative fritting and emphasised with colour lighting.

The ETFE cushion roofs are supported by a series of 18 environmentally ‘angle’ structures between the shop and houses. The canopy roofs cover the four main streets and the main food court at the centre. Shading and cooling, both passive and mechanical provide cooling systems within the covered areas.

Another application where Hightex’s position as a world leader in creating tensile structures and fabric architecture in tensioned membranes such as PTFE, PVC, and ETFE is realised.
